Sadly the new owners, or those running it don’t like groups of people, we had maybe 10-15 wanting to see if they were welcoming again. They had two people behind the bar and 5 other customers. Hopefully things change over time.
Was in last night, I live in Glasgow so have not been since before the sale (which I was not aware of). It was immediately apparent to me that something had changed, atmosphere slightly "off", beer not as well kept (Titanic Plum Porter was nowhere as amazing as other times I've had it), tables really sticky and dirty. It's off my Edinburgh must-go list now.
Alarmed to see that Cloister is for sale - that's also a great favourite of mine.
That’s a real shame to hear. I can’t say the service at The Stockbridge Tap was ever that remarkable, but it was never noticeably bad. It was my understanding that the new owners kept many of the old staff. That the beer has also taken a step down is even more of a disappointment to hear. It was still very good when I went in, just a few days after the sale.
The Cloisters hasn’t been sold yet as far as I can tell, and I’m not sure if it is still on the market.

That's a shame to hear. Service has not been that bad when I've been in, so hopefully it will be improved again in the near future.
