Around here I rate (apart from Dagda Bar) The Argyle in Marchmont, Leslie’s Bar just further down the same road as the Royal Dick, and the Greenmantle in Newington.
Great to read the support for Summerhall. I too would suggest Dagda Bar or The Cask & Barrel (Southside) on West Preston Street, just round from Summerhall. You could try The Brass Monkey on Grange Road (opposite the National Library Map Rooms) and if you are up for a challenge, see if you can find a space in The Old Bell from which you can't see a tv.
Thanks Alan – I have recently been to a few of those pubs around Southside so future reviews are incoming! The Old Bell looks lovely from the outside but I'm yet to visit so I'll add it to my list.
It was a shame to read about Summerhall's tax and funding problems in the Edinburgh Minute recently. Hopefully the artists will get the money they are owed.
Great article and some well deserved fury, i really hope the save summerhall campaign gets some momentum
