As a former pupil at Heriot's, I have to admit never having stepped inside the Jinglin' Geordie, even when it was an overflow bar for The Scotsman newspaper.
I'm always wary of bars you can't easily see into, have a Tennants sign above the door, and advertise free sports on TV. I think the GG hit two of those... Then again, I just don't really frequent pubs as much as I used to. Become more of a coffee shop inhabitant.
Yes I get that - definitely serving a different purpose to coffee shops. The pub can get crowded quickly because it's so small. But during the day it's usually pretty quiet. And the times I've been in there for football on TV they have had the sound off. So hopefully not too distracting if you're there for a drink other than the sports!

I would recommend it - it feels like somebody's living room and is a welcome respite from the Royal Mile/Cockburn St just up the close
