Hello, and thank you for being a subscriber to Edinburgh Pub Reviews. This newsletter has been running for almost three years now, having reviewed about 75 different pubs in the city. I’m taking a short break for the summer, but will be back in September with lots of brand new reviews.
Of course, no newsletter is anything without its subscribers, so I want you to have a say. Please do let me know your thoughts on what you’d like to see from Edinburgh Pub Reviews in the future by completing this short survey.
It should only take a couple of minutes. It will help me get a better idea of who my subscribers are, what you like about the newsletter and what you think should be improved. It’s completely anonymous, so don’t hold back!
I’m also considering publishing a short physical guide which you can take out and about with you. There are some questions in the survey about what you’d like to see from that. I’ll probably focus on one neighbourhood to start with, and if it goes well, expand with new areas in future editions.

Why are you asking me to fill out a survey?
I’m always keen to hear from you. Your comments and feedback have given me new ideas for posts, reviews and pubs to visit.
But I get not everyone wants to comment publicly or reply directly to reviews. This survey will allow me to understand more about my audience, where you are, and what kind of thing you want from Edinburgh Pub Reviews. Your responses will help me tailor the newsletter to my audience.
How long will it take to complete?
It will only take a few minutes. Most of the questions have multiple choice, tick-box responses.
What information do you collect about me?
I ask for some broad details about you, such as a rough age range (but not an exact age) and where you live (a rough neighbourhood, not an address). I also ask what you like about the newsletter and which features are most useful to you.
I don’t ask for your name, email address, exact age or exact location. The responses are all anonymised. This is why I used Google, not Substack, to create the survey. Unfortunately, when you fill out a survey created on Substack, the creator can see the name and email addresses of each respondent. Google keeps all this information anonymous.
What will the information be used for?
The results will allow me to see which parts of the newsletter are most useful to my subscribers, as well as some broad demographic information. This will help me to think about how to improve each newsletter, as well as how to expand the readership.
I’m also asking a couple of questions about a potential published version of Edinburgh Pub Reviews, which is an idea I’ve been thinking about for a while.
Will you publish the results of the survey?
No, none of your feedback will be made public.
